I enjoyed running around the area near my dorm, 168th 140th street. It was the first time to do exercise after coming to NY. Focusing too much on studying at desk makes my view, mind and body stiffened up. I should have time to run regularly. While I’m running around the streets, I see local people enjoying their holiday. A chatting young men group, elder men playing a board game, running children being looked after a mom, smokers, lovers… I realized, I’ve rarely known about this town outside the campus yet…although such might be a life of graduate student.
こっちに来てから全く運動をしていなかったものだから、ランニングに出た。168thから140thあたりまで下って、それからまた戻ってくるコース。ボードゲームに興じる老人たち、煙草を吸いながらダベる若者たち、走り回って遊ぶ子供たちと見守る母親、佇む恋人…
1ヶ月程経ったが、キャンパスの外の「ご近所」のことはまだほとんど知らないなぁ、自分は。大学院生なんてそんなものかもしれないけれど。
